Life Stories with Larry Brown in the Gallery

Every life is unique and filled with a wide range of adventures that resonate long after the moments have passed. This class will help you examine events in your life and capture them on paper using fiction techniques such as action and dialogue. Everyone will leave the class with pages and pages of details from their lives and a better understanding of how to make these details crackle with energy and insight in their telling.

Supplies: bring pen/pencil & paper or a laptop.

Summer Solstice with Moon Artist Jewelry

The Summer Solstice is the time of most light in the year. It is about triumph over darkness, and celebrating life and light. After the growth of spring it is now time to reap the rewards. It is important that we move with the cycles of nature and this workshop will introduce us to crystals that help us to manifest love, growth and abundance. Working with crystals, and the energy of the sun we will create on beaded necklace.


Beginner’s Acrylic with Jeanette Obbink

Location: The Cottage at Glenhyrst
Mondays – April 2 to June 11, 2018

Working in colour can be tricky, so during these classes we will explore the theory and the use of colour through exercises and application in finished paintings. There will be a simple still life set up to work from, or you can bring a photo to use as a starting point for your painting. We will look at composition and balance using line, shape and colour. Expect the first weeks to be heavier on exercises, so that in the second half you can implement what you learned.

Advanced Acrylic with Jeanette Obbink

Tuesdays – April 3 to June 5, 2018

Continuing from what you learned already about the use of colour, composition and balance in a painting, we will look at different techniques that Acrylic paints allow to enhance the work you are creating. Bring a photo and or sketch to use as a starting point for your painting. We will look at composition and balance using line, shape and colour as well as different techniques like glazing and texture mediums and different applications through the use of palette knife and brush. Feel free to bring the acrylic mediums along you would like to explore, there are many to choose from.

Watercolour Painting with Chelo Sebastian

Step into new territories of self-expression in this experiential painting course. Each week, we’ll experiment with different painting media and techniques – Venetian plaster, alcohol inks, waxes, powdered watercolours, transfer paper and more. Exercises are designed to help you not overthink the creative process and find the spark that leads to the next exciting project.

Stained Glass with Brian Pickering

Using the copper foil method of stained glass beginner students will create a 10“x 10” piece while experienced students will expand on their knowledge of glass design and use of colours to create their own Project.

Embracing Encaustics with Linda Blakney, M.B.A., M.A.

Encaustics use melted, pigmented beeswax to create luminous paintings with translucency, opacity and other unique qualities. In this course, we’ll explore and experiment with contemporary techniques to create colour, textures and patterns, while incorporating mixed media into our encaustic pieces. Suitable for encaustics beginners as well as those with experience.

Refunds/Cancellations
Occasionally a class will not reach its full enrollment and must be canceled, in which case a class refund will be issued. Otherwise, class refunds are issued for medical reasons only with presentation of a doctor’s certificate. A $10 administration fee applies.
