Vive le Beaujolais Nouveau!
> Thursday, November 15, 2007 7:00 -- 9:00 p.m.
Over sixty people enjoyed a wonderful evening of celebration of the new Beaujolais Nouveau wines. Members of the community and gallery attended including two corporate representatives who brought clients along as part of their client appreciation evening. Comments about the evening were all very appreciative of a great night out -- many noting that the night was humming with excitement and conversation. There were six wines to be opened, offering a variety of tastes and sensations. Everyone enjoyed the new Drawing: Juried Exhibition, seeing all the great Christmas ideas in the giftshop and new display of artworks in the Art Rental & Sales Showroom. Special thanks to our sponsors: Jensen Cheese and Sean Lemp who provided the music.

The year 2007 marks a special anniversary for Glenhyrst Gardens as a site dedicated to the purpose of being an arts facility. Mr. Edmund Cockshutt, owner of Glenhyrst, passed away in 1956 and bequeathed the buildings and grounds to the City of Brantford for the purpose of the site being used as a dedicated arts facility. This year we mark our fiftieth anniversary of Mr. Edmund Cockshutt’s vision. Glenhyrst has seen many artists’ works, exhibitions, special events and educational opportunities enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Brantford and Brant County and world-wide array of visitors.
To celebrate Mr. Cockshutt’s vision and contribution to the arts, Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant will present a survey exhibition of artworks in the Cottage Rental Gallery. The exhibition, curated by Fabio Gasbarri, will feature artists who have shown at our gallery over the last fifty years. To further celebrate the legacy of Cockshutt’s vision for Brantford we will show some of the work collected by the art gallery since its inception in 1957. We are in the planning stages for a unique projection of this artwork accompanied by music. Refreshments and cake will be served. Please contact the gallery about this event as details may be subject to change.

Permanent Collection -- Outdoor Dedication Ceremony
October 21, 2007 2:00 p.m.
To mark and memorialize our 50th anniversary we will dedicate two sculptures in the outdoor exhibition gardens. One sculpture was installed the early part of this year, entitled Hearing the Song by Marianne Reim. It was purchased through a grant from the Samuel W. Stedman Foundation. The sculpture’s plaque will be placed this day to honour the fiftieth anniversary. Plus, a new sculpture, by local artist David Hind, will be dedicated on this date. It was purchased through a grant from the Brantford Community Foundation and through a donation by the Wivell Family. Everyone Welcome.

10th Annual Taste of Glenhyrst
> Thursday, June 21, 2007 6:30 -- 10:00 p.m.
It was a 10th anniversary success -- a sold out event with over 500 tickets sold, 20 restaurants and 7 wineries/breweries participating, a wide selection of silent auction items, kick up your heels music by the Toronto All Star Big Band and a raffle for a diamond necklace and flat screen television!
We offer tremendous appreciation to co-chairs Barbara Pynenburg and Adam Szabluk for their work to make this year’s event such a success! Thanks to board members, staff and all volunteers for their assistance at producing a fantastic event. See you next year -- June 19, 2008.

Tibetan Monks Sacred Art Tour & Visit
It was an amazing week at the gallery this past July when we had the last minute opportunity to host the Tibetan Monks’ Sacred Art Tour on the grounds. For the entire last week of July -- eight monks built a beautiful, multi coloured sand mandala daily while viewers experienced the calm, peaceful, artistic expertise of the monks. We celebrated with a dinner for the monks, sand painting and butter sculpture workshops, a slide show and lecture about Tibetan culture and a fantastic cultural pageant on the outdoor stage. Over two thousand, one hundred people attended the week’s activities, including the closing ceremonies by the Grand River -- it was a moving experience and one which so many of you have offered rave reviews and comments to the gallery.
The monks have recently returned from their Southern Ontario tour to their monastery in India and have offered thanks to the community of Brantford and Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant for our hospitality and acceptance of their culture and talents. Brantford is held in the highest regard for the professionalism of the week’s activities and the Canadian Friends of Drepung Gomang Monastery have sent us a note that we are being held as a benchmark for the most successful site on their 2007 provincial tour and as a template for other sites to model their activities, for their 2008 visit. Thanks to all who came, offered their support and experienced the wealth of knowledge and calmness of that week with the monks.
On that note, the gallery has arranged to host the monks who will be here again for the 2008 Sacred Art Canadian Tour. They will be joining us for the last two weeks of July and we have even built the Summer Art Camp (for those two weeks) around the monks’ art activities. We are planning more events than those seen in 2007 so watch for more information about the tour in upcoming newsletters and releases.
