Tuesdays – January 14 to March 3

For those with some experience with acrylics, this class is designed to build on acquired skills and increase confidence using this medium. We will explore the elements and principles of design while developing skills.

Limited reference material available. You may wish to bring a photo or sketch to use as a starting point for your painting.

Watercolour Painting with Chelo Sebastian

Using the properties of watercolour, you will learn to be more spontaneous & experimental. Large paper and big brushes, as well as ink, pastels and wax, will be used to develop your own unique style. Loosen up, be spontaneous, inventive and find answers to the question: “When is the painting finished?”

Get off your ‘BUTS’ – Writing with Larry Brown

Saturdays – February 8 to 29, 2020
Duration: 4 weeks
Time 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

You want to write, BUT…You have a great idea for a novel, BUT…You want to write a memoir to pass along to your children, BUT…This quick-moving writing class will get you writing, leaving the buts behind. You will complete at least three stories during the class and also take home several pages of raw material for future stories. Bring pen/pencil and paper or your laptop.

WORKSHOPS


Floral Bouquet Tote Bag workshop

Date: Sunday February 9, 2020
Time: 10am to 4pm with 30 minutes for lunch (please bring your own lunch)
Location: Glenhyrst Cottage

(Fees include materials for 2 bags and instruction)

Children and parents learn simple stitches while producing a beautifully decorated tote bag or backpack. Instructor Kay Boyd – a long-time member of the Brant Broderer’s Association – will walk you through the stitches to complete this project. You can keep it as a tote bag or Kay will show you how to convert it to a backpack.

PLEASE NOTE: Each child must have an adult 18 years or older with them to participate. Each person will receive a tote bag and all material as part of the fee.

Relief Printmaking with Aliki Mikulich, BA Fine Arts

Sunday February 23, 2020

Relief Printmaking is a technique using a block of material (wood, lino, linosoft) which is carved and then repeated images are printed on paper and other materials using inks. In this 6-hour introductory workshop participants will work on a 4 x 6 piece of linosoft to create an image that will be printed repeatedly to create an edition of prints. A second, more complex image will be created after the first preliminary work. The second part of the session will include instruction on how to create a layered colour image using the reduction method of carving and printing. All materials included in cost of registration.

An Introduction to Mosaics with Heather Vollans

Sunday February 9, 2020
Time: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Location: Coach House at Glenhyrst

Working on a prepared plywood board, you will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials to produce an ungrouted mosaic artwork. Students will be encouraged to use a maximum of 3 different materials in any combination of colours and/or textures and to utilise a very simple design. The true drama of mosaic is in the choice of materials and how they are cut and placed. Students will have the opportunity to use a variety of tools to make their cuts. Instruction will also include how and where to source bases for mosaic, how to prepare your base and what to avoid!

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL FEE OF $10 payable to the instructor at beginning of workshop.

Payment
Class size is limited, so register early to avoid disappointment. Pre-registration is required for all classes and is on a first-come, first served basis with full payment. Registrations can be made online, in person, by phone, fax or mail.

Cheque, cash, debit, VISA and MasterCard payments are accepted. NOTE: 13% HST must now be added to all Adult Class Fees. A $20 charge is applied to NSF cheques.

Refunds/Cancellations
Occasionally a class will not reach its full enrollment and must be canceled, in which case a class refund will be issued. Otherwise, class refunds are issued for medical reasons only with presentation of a doctor’s certificate. A $10 administration fee applies.
