Doris Slater Titus

August 1 - September 27

Doris Slater Titus is one of the most important and overlooked artists in Canada. She remains the only independent woman comic book artist in Canada during World War II and one of the first women artists to experiment with abstract painting in Canada. Moving to Brantford in the 1950s, Titus established the Brant Sketch Club at Glenhyrst Gardens and showed her work several times in the gallery itself. Tragically, Titus died in a head-on collision in 1964. This exhibition traces her life and contributions to the comic book industry and visual arts in Canada.
